PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Sanala Culturally Supportive Housing Society, in partnership with BC Housing, is developing a purpose-built Culturally Supportive Housing building with approximately 35-40 units in Port Hardy, BC, designed to provide enhanced health, social and cultural supports to individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness with complex mental health and substance use challenges through 24/7 on-site wraparound services. This collaborative project involves multiple partners including the District of Port Hardy and Provincial Rental Housing Corporation (PRHC), with the Sanala Culturally Supportive Housing Society.

Sanala is comprised of representatives from the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations, Kwakiutl First Nation, Namgis First Nation, Tlatlasikwala First Nation, Quatsino First Nation and the North Island Métis Nation. The building will be operated by Sanala, who will deliver comprehensive support services to residents whose functional needs are not met by other forms of housing, while ensuring the building design meets both operational requirements and BC Housing Construction Standards & Guidelines along with applicable codes and by-laws.
